Okuama, Delta state - The Nigerian Army has withdrawn its personnel from the Okuama community in Ughelli South local government area (LGA) of Delta state.
The Nation noted the update on Wednesday, May 8.
According to a statement by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, the withdrawal was confirmed during a phone conversation with the chief of army staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, on Monday, May 6.

Leadership newspaper reported the development, adding that the army spent 38 days.
Confirming the withdrawal of the soldiers, Governor Oborevwori said:
“My dear good people of Delta state, I have the pleasure to announce to you that, upon much deliberation and collaboration between the state government and the military leadership, the Nigerian Army has agreed to withdraw its officers and men from Okuama."He added:
“I spoke with the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja on Monday, May 6, and as of today, May 8, 2024, the military has withdrawn from Okuama."“With this development, the people of Okuama can now safely return to their homes."More to read on Okuama, Delta state

Legit.ng earlier reported that the Nigerian Army released Clement Ikolo, a traditional ruler in Delta who was arrested over the murder of 17 officers in Okuama community.
Ikolo was released on Friday during a briefing by Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, director of Nigerian Army public relations, in Abuja.
The monarch was released to Ede Dafinone, the senator representing Delta Central, who stood as his surety.
